OUR VISION

ATTORNEY KOPERA WILL WORK HARD FOR YOU

Attorney Matthew E. Kopera chose to concentrate in criminal law for one simple reason: to defend the rights of the accused.  Few things can  be more frightening or upsetting than facing criminal charges.  The State has nearly unlimited resources  in their quest to prosecute, and Attorney Kopera understands the stress that can come with fighting such a powerful adversary.  Diligence, competence, and knowledge of the law are vital in criminal cases.  It is for this reason that when facing criminal charges, a defendant should hire an attorney that focuses primarily on criminal law.  Attorney Kopera concentrated in criminal law and advocacy while attending Quinnipiac University School of Law because he wanted to make a difference for defendants.

"One of the reasons I wanted to become a defense attorney is because I have experienced first hand what it is like to be harassed by police, and I understand what it is like to face the immense power of the government when they make an accusation.  I became a defense attorney because I wanted to stand up for the little guy, the guy who refuses to give in.  Everyone, regardless of charges deserves the best defense possible, which is why I fight for the rights of the accused."

“To be an effective criminal defense counsel, an attorney must be prepared to be demanding, outrageous, irreverent, blasphemous, a rogue, a renegade, and a hated, isolated, and lonely person - few love a spokesman for the despised and the damned.”

-Clarence Darrow, famed defense attorney

ABOUT ATTORNEY KOPERA

Attorney Matthew E. Kopera graduated from Quinnipiac University School of Law Cum Laude with a concentration in Criminal Law and Advocacy, one of only three students in his class who completed a Criminal Concentration (also with honors).  He gained courtroom experience by completing internships with both The Office of the Public Defender in Hartford, CT as well as with the State's Attorney's Office in Meriden, CT.

"My earliest memory of the law was watching the famous legal movie "Twelve Angry Men".  I remember in detail the importance of having a unanimous jury decision in criminal cases. It left a great impression on me about the potential for prejudice in the courtroom, as well as potential for reason and argument to overcome that same prejudice.  I think it inspired me to become  criminal defense attorney"
